“From Asia Minor to the Aegean Sea”

Stathis Koukoularis: violin
Martha Mavroidi: Constantinople lute, singing
Maria Plοumi: lute
Spiros Balios: lute
Giorgos Ventouris: double bass
Mihalis Bakalis: percussion

Originally from Kinidaros, Naxos, having more than 4.000 recordings as well as a reputation that crossed the borders of Europe reaching the US and Australia, a loyal gatekeeper and a deep connoisseur of the original musical tradition of the Aegean Sea, Stathis Koukoularis is one of the most important violinists of the traditional music from the islands. At Tinos World Music Festival, he will present a tribute to the musical tradition of the Aegean Sea and Asia Minor, featuring instrumental music from the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Northern and the Eastern Aegean, as well as from the coast of Asia Minor. Through the songs and the dancing tunes that are played in different versions from island to island, the Aegean emerges as a culturally uniform area with an inexhaustible musical wealth, where the local musical traditions interact not only with each other, but with the significant musical tradition of Asian Minor as well.
