Eliza Carthy & George Ventouris
Singer and violinist Eliza Carthy, daughter of Martin Carthy – an emblematic figure of the English folk scene -, is featuring some of the most typical songs of English folk music, a genre that had a great impact on many contemporary music genres. Over her 25-year career in music, including two nominations for the Mercury prize, innumerable international accolades and collaborations with artists that have made their mark in the international music scene such as Nick Cave, among others, Eliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and interesting performers of her generation. Having as main axis interculturalism and thanks to the brilliant and charismatic way in which she approached and revitalized the traditional song, she has managed to seduce even the most skeptical audience. Thus also the numerous BBC TV and radio shows dedicated to her.
George Ventouris was born and raised in Paros. He studied classical guitar with Alexandros Zervas, jazz guitar with Vasilis Rakopoulos and Apostlolos Leventopoulos and has been taking double bass lessons with Vangelis Zografos for the past few years. He has worked with famous musicians and participated in jazz and world music festivals in Greece and foreign countries. He also composed music for the movie “The Guide”.
