The Tinos Byzantine Chorus of the Holy Metropolis of Syros was founded under the auspices of His Eminence, Metropolitan of Syros and Tinos, Dorotheos II. It consists of chanters, most of whom are alumni and students of the Byzantine Music School of the Panhellenic Holy Foundation of Evangelistria in Tinos, who chant in churches throughout the Island of Tinos. The Chorus participates in religious services as well as in musical concerts and events in the island. Quite remarkable are the Chorus’ award winning participations in events held by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the Synodal Committee for Christian Education of the Youth as well as a special presentation in the ceremony hall of the Old Parliament building in Athens. Since 2008, the Chorus is lead by Stelios Kontakiotis , chief -chanter of the Holy Church of Evangelistria in Tinos.
The concert’s programme includes ecclesiastic melodies from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine era and songs of the scholarly tradition of Byzantium and Constantinople.
